At Tourific, sustainability is not an afterthought. It is built into the very nature of what we do. As a fully digital, app based self-guided audio tour company, our business model is inherently low impact. Every tour we create replaces physical materials, eliminates vehicle emissions, and encourages travelers to explore the world on foot. This policy outlines our commitments across environmental, social, and operational sustainability.

Environmental Sustainability
Zero Emission Tours

Every Tourific tour is a walking tour. Our travelers explore cities entirely on foot, producing zero transport emissions. Unlike traditional guided tours that rely on coaches, minibuses, or motorised vehicles, our self-guided format requires no vehicles whatsoever. Walking is the most sustainable way to experience a destination, and it is the only mode of travel we promote.

Eliminating Physical Materials

Our tours are delivered entirely through our mobile app. This means we produce no paper maps, no printed guidebooks, no brochures, no flyers, and no physical tickets. Every piece of content, from narration scripts to route maps, exists only in digital form. When content needs to be updated, we publish changes instantly through the app rather than discarding and reprinting materials.

Replacing Single Use Audio Guide Devices

Traditional audio tour providers distribute thousands of handheld audio guide devices each year. These devices require manufacturing, charging, sanitisation, and eventual disposal, all of which carry an environmental cost. Tourific eliminates this entirely by delivering audio tours through the smartphone travelers already carry. No additional hardware is manufactured, powered, or discarded.

Digital Delivery, Zero Logistics Emissions

Because our tours are downloaded directly to travelers' smartphones, there is no shipping, no packaging, no warehousing, and no logistics chain. A traveler in Bath or Bergen receives their tour the same way: an instant digital download with zero transportation emissions involved in delivery.

Our tour narratives actively highlight local businesses, independent cafés, neighbourhood restaurants, artisan workshops, and cultural institutions. By directing travelers to these places through our content, we contribute to a more distributed and equitable tourism economy rather than concentrating spending at a handful of mainstream tourist hotspots.

Our self-paced format accommodates travelers of all abilities, fitness levels, and preferences. Travelers can pause, skip stops, or take the tour at their own pace. Every tour includes written transcripts alongside audio content, ensuring that our tours are accessible to travelers who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as those who simply prefer to read. Combined with accessible pricing and availability in nine languages, our tours make quality guided experiences available to a wider and more diverse audience, supporting inclusive tourism globally.

Operational Sustainability
Remote First, No Office Footprint

Tourific operates as a fully remote organisation. We have no physical office, which means zero energy consumption for office lighting, heating, cooling, or equipment. Our team members work from home, eliminating daily commute emissions entirely.

Plastic Free, Paperless Operations and Waste Free Workplace

As a remote first company with no physical office, we do not consume single use plastics, disposable water bottles, or any disposable materials in our operations. There are no office pantries generating packaging waste, no disposable cups or cutlery, and no physical supplies to procure, ship, or discard. All our internal workflows, from content creation to finance to customer support, are fully digital. We do not print documents, contracts, invoices, or reports. Our operations produce no paper waste. Our operational waste footprint is effectively zero.

Sustainably Hosted Digital Infrastructure

Our digital infrastructure is hosted by providers with strong sustainability commitments. Our core application servers are hosted on IONOS, whose data centres are powered by 100% renewable electricity with ISO 50001 certified energy management systems. Our website is built on Wix, which runs on Google Cloud infrastructure that has been carbon neutral since 2007 and matches 100% of its energy consumption with renewable energy purchases. By choosing infrastructure partners committed to clean energy, we ensure that even the digital backbone of our service operates with a minimal carbon footprint.

We recognise that sustainability is an ongoing commitment, not a destination. While we are proud that our business model is inherently low impact, we continue to look for ways to reduce our footprint further and to contribute positively to the destinations and communities we serve.
