Prodigal son window
00:00 / 01:04
This window tells the story of the Prodigal Son, one of Christ’s most powerful parables about freedom, failure, forgiveness, and mercy. Read it carefully, and you’ll notice how human the story feels. The story begins when the younger son claims his inheritance while his father is still alive in scen 1. In scene 2, he receives it, as his older brother looks on. This is already a betrayal — inheritance was meant to be given after death. The younger son is choosing independence over family. Soon, the consequences follow. In the next scenes, the young man is drawn toward pleasure. He is shown with two courtesans in scene 3, and then crowned with flowers, symbols of excess, pride, and a life spent on appearances. His money buys celebration, but not loyalty. Then the story turns sharply. Broke and abandoned, the son is shown held by demons in scene 4, a visual way of expressing despair and moral collapse. In the next scene, he is reduced to working in the fields in scene 6, feeding animals — the lowest possible position for a Jewish listener of Christ’s time. This is not just poverty; it is humiliation. At this lowest point, the son makes a choice. He returns to his father in scene 7, not asking for forgiveness as a son, but hoping to survive as a servant. What happens next is the heart of the story. Instead of punishment, the father orders the fatted calf to be killed in scene 8. A reunion feast in scene 9 follows. The son is restored fully — not as a worker, but as family. But the story does not end there. The elder brother, who stayed obedient, asks why there is such celebration in scene 10. He cannot understand mercy that seems unfair. Finally, the father persuades the elder son to join scen 11, and in the last scene 12, he does. The parable ends without judgment. It leaves the question with you: Is faith about obedience alone — or about the courage to forgive?. Now move to the window beside the current window.
