Luxembourg Palace
00:00 / 01:04
Another stop nestled in the heart of Paris, the Luxembourg Palace, also known as Palais du Luxembourg, stands as a testament to France's rich history and architectural grandeur. The Palace, constructed in the early 17th century, was commissioned by Queen Marie de' Medici, the widow of King Henry the fourth of France. Inspired by her childhood home, the Pitti Palace in Florence, Italy, she envisioned a grand royal residence. The palace, designed by Salomon de Brosse, became a symbol of opulence and elegance, serving as a residence for French monarchs. Throughout its history, the palace played multiple roles, including serving as a legislative building during the French Revolution. It has been a seat of government, a prison, and even a military hospital. Today, the Senate of France meets in the Luxembourg Palace, making it the upper house of the French Parliament. Before planning your visit to the Luxembourg Palace, be sure to check the opening hours and any admission requirements. The palace is generally open to the public, but the Senate's sessions may affect visitor access. The palace is surrounded by the stunning Jardin du Luxembourg, a sprawling garden filled with fountains, statues, and meticulously manicured greenery. One of the most iconic features of the garden is the large octagonal pond, perfect for enjoying a leisurely stroll. The next stop on our journey, the Medici Fountain, lies within the Jardin du Luxembourg. Make your way there.
